Members are only elected after they have submitted their work to the scrutiny of the Association. Entry requirements are high and each applicant must submit three jobs for inspection, which will include one in the course of being thatched. In addition they each undertake to maintain high standards, both in their work and in their business dealings.
The Association has the right to remove any member failing to maintain the required standard. The Association works to represent thatch and thatchers with local councils, conservation bodies and other professional interested parties.
It also seeks to maintain and improve the supply of both high quality materials and new entrants coming into the craft, so that the craft can continue to fulfil the needs of thatched properties and their custodians for the enjoyment of future generations. |
